Sabrina works as a freelance horn player and brass teacher, and is based in South London. A well-travelled performer, Sabrina has played in orchestras in China, India, Europe and the UK. Her orchestral work includes Southern Sinfonia, Milton Keynes City Orchestra, Bombay Chamber Orchestra, and the Orchestra of Stowe Opera. Concerto performances include Haydn’s Double Horn Concerto, Schumann’s Konzertstück and Mozart’s 3rd Horn Concerto. One of Sabrina’s favourite orchestral performances to date has been under Sue Perkins, where Sue conducted the orchestra with a toothbrush.
Period horn playing has led Sabrina to perform with Benslow Baroque Opera, Essex Baroque Orchestra, Dartington Festival Baroque Orchestra, Belsize Baroque, and with the period wind ensemble Syrinx Winds. Sabrina is also a keen chamber musician, and performs with Martineau Brass and South West Brass, and in larger ensembles such as the Spectrum Ensemble, and the Matt Gough Jazz Dectet. She has premiered music by Gordon Carr, Richard Bullen, and Rhian Samuel, and was part of the London premiere of the 64 horn piece Across the Distance by John Luther Adams.
Committed to education, Sabrina is the horn specialist tutor for Merton Music Foundation, and brass tutor with Wandsworth Schools’ Music. She has assisted at annual festivals and regional horn days around the United Kingdom, and worked on education projects with Mark Bowden and members of the London Philharmonic Orchestra. Sabrina attended her first British Horn festival at Radley College in 2002, and hasn’t looked back since. She joined the BHS committee as Secretary in May 2012, and works with the Education sub-committee, and was part of the sub-committee that organised the BHS Festival at Dulwich in 2013.
Recipient of the Rosamund Mott, TCM Trust and Leverhulme Scholarships; Sabrina completed her Master of Music degree at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, where she studied with Roger Montgomery (modern and natural horn) and Michael Murray. Prior to study in London, Sabrina obtained a post-graduate performance diploma from Birmingham Conservatoire, where she took part in the CBSO training scheme and was a finalist in the Bernard Brown chamber music competition. Sabrina read Music at the University of Birmingham, studying performance with Simon de Souza, Peter Dyson, Anneke Scott (natural horn) and Sue Dent (natural horn), and composition with Vic Hoyland and Lee Differ.
Away from all things horn-related, Sabrina can be found in the swimming pool, baking, and doing DIY, although not at the same time!
